Cross Country

Remember that our school Cross Country is on TUESDAY.

• You may wear your PE gear to school but bring your uniform in case your PE gear gets wet due to rain or muddy if you fall over.
• School polar fleece or jersey. 
• Track pants to keep warm (blue or black if you have them)
• Running shoes.
• Spare pair of socks (any socks) 
• Drink Bottle.
• Snacks. We will be back at school for lunch but bring plenty of snacks.
• Your school hat.

Swimming Week

During every day of week 7 we walked down to the ASB pool for swimming lessons. On Wednesday we did water safety and we split in to three groups. There was one group that went on a boat, one group was in the lazy river and the other was jumping in to the pool. It was really fun and we hope to do it again later in the year.

Saint Paul's Swimming Sports

On Wednesday we had our school swimming sports. It was a really fun day and we are looking forward to doing it again next year. The events were back stroke, breast stroke and free style. Here are some photos we took.

Father Andrew visit to Kotuku

Today we had a visit from Father Andrew during our spelling lesson. We hope he enjoyed his visit, we sure enjoyed having him join us. We hope he comes again soon!

Term 1 Week 5 Blog Report

Swimming Sports

On Wednesday we are having our school swimming sports at Nayland Pool. We will be leaving school right after the bell so please be at school on time.  

You will need to bring:

• Your togs, goggles and two towels if possible as you are in more than one event
• Morning tea and water.
• Your school hat.
• You may wear your PE gear on Wednesday (remember to have your togs on before we leave school).

Sunscreen will be available at the pool

Middle Syndicate Rotations

 
Celebrations and Festivals are an ongoing part of life, where we say "thanks" for what we have or the milestones that have been passed. Each country, group and family have different celebrations but the connecting threads in these are: fun, sense of thankfulness and appreciation, connection with the traditions of past (in family, group, country), moments of reflection and importance.

As part of our Celebrations and Festivals topic, the Middle Syndicate students have been rotating around Kereru, Kotuku and Kea classrooms each Thursday afternoon to learn about a new celebration.

The students have decorated Calavera (sugar skulls) which are used in the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) and the Catholic holy day All Souls day. 

Students celebrated Guy Fawkes day by creating 'Fireworks in a Jar' and firework art.

Candle holders were made (yet to be decorated) to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu 'Festival of Lights'.

The students really enjoyed spending time in other classrooms with a mix of children from across the syndicate.

A big thank you to parents and grandparents who helped out in the classrooms!

Touch Rugby on Friday!

Hi everyone,
The Top of the South Touch Tournament is on this Friday.

Here is a list of things that you will need to remember:

• Plate of food for our visitors
• Sunscreen
• PE gear
• School hat
• You can play in bare feet or sneakers (track pants are optional)
• Water bottle (we will have a refill station in the area where you are playing
• Snacks and lunch or $5 for lunch pack (sausage sizzle, baking and juicy). There will be no subway this week.

Operation Christmas Child

                                                         
Dear Kotuku class                      

Our operation Christmas Child boxes need to be filled by Wednesday the 26th of October. We’ve chosen to fill our shoe box  with stuff a 10 to 14 year old boy would like. Christmas Child boxes are distributed to 150 countries around the world. Please make sure your item is new so it is fresh for another person to enjoy.

Here are some gift ideas: You can put in an item for their personal care  for example you can put in a hairbrush, solid soap and a drink bottle. Another idea is to give the child a school supply or a clothing item like a sun hat, jandals, or undies. The child also may like handballs, tennis balls, or marbles.

All items need to be able to fit in a single shoe box. Remember to check out the website (link down below)

Singing with Andrew Chinn

Today we had a great time singing with Andrew Chinn! First, we had a workshop where we practiced different songs and then the choir had a practice. In the afternoon we had the whole school concert. Here are videos of our class signing with Mr Chinn and also a video of Kotuku members of the choir singing.

Kotuku Class Book Day

Hi everyone, on Friday we will be having our Kotuku class book day to celebrate the book fair. We will be doing lots of fun book fair related activities throughout the day. So on Friday bring along your favourite books, some reading snacks, comfy clothes and you can even bring your slippers.

Today was our book fair parade. Everyone in Kotuku dressed up all sorts of different costumes.

Daffodil Day on Friday

Just a reminder that it is Daffodil Day on Friday, so remember to wear something yellow. A gold coin donation collected on the day will go directly to the cancer society and our senior students will be at the gate with daffodils from the Cancer Society if you wish to make use of this easy collection point.

Winter Tournament

On Tuesday we have Winter Tournament over at Henley. Remember to come to school in your P.E gear. It is an 'all day' event so bring the following:

• Water
• Snacks and lunch
• Warm clothing (track pants and your school polar fleece)
• Raincoat (in case of showers or rain)
• Shin pads, mouth guards, boots (if needed)
• A competitive but fair and friendly attitude :)

Games will start at 10.00a.m

Kotuku News Report Term 3 Week 4

Week 9 in Kotuku

Play House Play

On Tuesday we went to mass then we came back to school and had sausages and jucies. In the afternoon we went over to Salisbury School to see a play by the play house. The story told us about being careful on our devices.

Our sports day

On Thursday the 30^th of June, we had our sports day where we had to dress up in our team colours. The different houses and colours were: Antioch which was  green,  Damascus which was red,  Tarsus which was blue and Corinth which was yellow. The games that we played were tug of war, dodge ball, relay race, gumboot throw, egg and spoon race, monster soccer, sack races and the sand pit dig. There was a prize for the best dressed and Aylish Inwood won.
